Transitional Style Takes on Nantucket!

A Family of Collectors

We have a few go to sources for finding perfect art pieces to fit our clients palette. In our newest Nantucket Project, we didn't have to. Our clients had generations of coastal and traditional art collected that we were able to place throughout the home. From the main living room, to the bar cart, to the bedrooms, and even the basement, we collaborated with this family of collectors to choose the perfect piece for each room.

I truly love when our clients have their hands in on the style of a project. It adds a larger team element to the process that makes designing so much fun! Take a look through our newest Nantucket project below and make sure to follow us on Instagram for other scenes from this shoot!

Nantucket Shopping Guide

Finding the finishing touches..

I can’t believe it’s been 4 weeks since the Pinney Designs team and I were on Nantucket for our most recent install. I’m excited to share some pictures of the install with you soon, we’re working on something really special! But, until then, I thought I would share with you some off site shots and in store scenes from our accessory shopping while on island.

Getting everything to the island takes a lot of logistics and having everything we need before the big install is crucial. But, we always leave room in our accessory budget for the finishing touches to be bought on island. There are so many great stores that I love and have wonderful island themed items. On top of that I also think it’s great to support the local economy when we can.

The Lions Paw, 30 Main St Nantucket, MA 02554, is certainly my first stop. They have a great linen and textile collection. We’re always looking here for that one of a kind accent pillow and they carry the best accent pillow selection on the island.

Nantucket Looms, 51 Main St Nantucket, MA 02554, is also a must. Not only do they have great accessories (including the throws they weave themselves in their studio upstairs) but their art collection is well curated and has a good range in subject.  For this project we didn’t need any art as the client’s are art collectors but typically this is where we go for key beach imagery.

Anderson’s, 29 Main St, Nantucket, MA 02554, has a great selection of picture frames, art, and other decorative accents. On this visit we grabbed some coasters and a beautiful set of three ceramic nesting bowls for the house.

Flowers on Chestnut, 1 Chestnut St, Nantucket, MA 02554 is always our last stop on the accessory shopping trip. Nothing - NOTHING makes a home feel more like home than some fresh cut flowers and plants. Flowers on Chestnut has an amazing collection of fresh flowers as well as some really great looking fakes (that we used for this install).

Second Floor Plans!

Elizabeth Tobin

Ok, so we’re already looking at an September move in date. Man, I thought I could do this faster than a typical client project timeline since I’d be running the show. I was wrong. BUT if we can get moved in, in under a year I think we’ll still beat the standard client timeline, for a project of this size.

The main floor of our home was an easy plan to make. We are removing a wall between the kitchen and back bedroom to make it a small family room. We love spending time in the kitchen and this will really be the heart of our home. I picture myself in the kitchen making yummy stews and Toby playing with his friends in the family room. I can’t wait! Below I've included plans and a detailed rendering of our kitchen design!

The dining room has a TON of old charm that we’re keeping. In the center of it is this wonderful  old hutch that I can’t wait to fill with my grandmothers vases and other family items. The dining room has gum wood paneling that we love for the warmth it brings into the living room. I am hoping I can sand it down and oil it to a lighter tone of wood. But either way we’re not painting it.

The living room will be used as another family room minus the TV. This room gets AMAZING natural light and I picture Sunday mornings in here with coffee and legos. I can’t wait - have I already said that?!

We also have this super charming front foyer on our main floor of living. Remember we’re living on the second and third floor. So we don’t get a typical foyer at the front door but we have one off the living room with stunning old doors that lead out to our front porch. The doors need a ton of work but my father is going to bring them back to life for us. I’ve already bought a cute little console and have a light on hold at SYD+SAM for this space! We want to have a landline so Toby can pick up the phone and talk to his grandparents and friends. This was something I loved as a child and want to keep in Toby’s life even though landlines are quickly disappearing.

Aside from inspections and all the unexpected things the groundwork of a new project can bring, getting to design my own home has been so fun! Thanks for keeping up with my project updates and check out our Instagram stories for more!
